More Preparations

We finally put up our Christmas tree on Saturday. And, sad to say, our only countdown activity we've been consistent with is the paper chain. I took a picture of it today. I hope you are all doing well. I just started a new poll. I've decided to bake a ham this year instead of a turkey. I even considered some kind of beef dish, since ham is not that great for you, and we will be eating pork and sauerkraut on January 1st (I'll blog about that later!) Anyway, I am just curious what you all prepare for dinner on Christmas. I'll be finishing up my shopping for the meal, and since I'm baking a ham, this will hopefully distinguish this a bit from Thanksgiving. I've been tired of having duplicate meals for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. I am considering switching to beef on Christmas and ham on Easter? I don't know. I never eat ham, but hopefully once per year won't hurt.

We did ham this year for Thanksgiving...actually I received a gift of a Honeybaked ham for Thanksgiving. I do not normally care for turkey, prefer ham. However, this year, because our finances are VERY tight, we are actually doing chicken this year for Christmas. I already have it in the freezer, so no $ needs to be spent. We will fix our favorite side dishes...green bean casserole, sweet potatoes and stuffing...which all go well with chicken...and Kevin will make his mocha cappucino cake...and we will be set.

We go to my in-laws for Christmas Eve and of course, are always sent home with leftovers...so, there will be plenty of ham and turkey sent home for sandwiches.

Hi Carrie! That paper chain is dwindling down way too fast! Can't you slow it down? We just got our tree up this week, too.

Ah, well. As for the menu, I'm hoping my sister will clue me in since we'll be having dinner there. (At least I think so! Our family is sort-of last-minute.) I love to have ham, and it's the only time of year I may get it. Turkey's great too, but I'm one of those people who could have it all year. I'm good, as long as I make my cornbread stuffing- -a batch from Thanksgiving is ready and waiting in the freezer.

Thanks for your comments! I hear you Shawna regarding tight budgets, but think about all those leftovers! I think we got our Thanksgiving turkey for about 37cents per pound, and the ham was about 99 cents per pound. It really isn't the meat that breaks my budget--it's all the extras! Nikki, I wish I had one extra week! I would love to have one extra week of school with no where else to go. There comes a time whenever all my efforts seem counterproductive! UGH!

Well, we have $30 to last us until I get paid on January 2nd, so we REALLY were going to do chicken. I went to Albertson's tonight and turkeys were 99 cents a pound and I just couldn't spend $12 on a turkey...then I noticed that they were buy one/get one free...so a fellow shopper and I teamed up together and each spent $6 on a turkey.

I know it's quite late to leave a comment but whatever.

I don't want to spend my Christmas in the kitchen so Jeff and I make a lasanga a day or two ahead of time. We just reheat it with some bread and salad. My family tradition tends towards finger foods and treats more than particular meals.

BTW Shawna, that was so cool to team up with a fellow shopper to get the turkey for $6!
